Dyson Humidifier Review

You may not realize it, but humidity is a huge part of the human experience, especially when it comes to health and comfort. A hot day that is dry can easily feel better than a humid day that is only of medium heat. A cigar that is stored in a low humidity environment will burn harsher than a cigar in a humidor. Fortunately, some top minds at Dyson have put together devices to control humidity levels. It is their excellent products that we have chosen to examine in this Dyson humidifier review.

Obviously, Dyson represents one of the top line technology companies working in the market today, but its competition can be just as advanced. In the age of the near infinite options offered by the Internet, it can be difficult to know if the big name should be trusted or if one of their competitors have lapped them in terms of features or price point.

For these reasons and more, we have put together our Dyson humidifier review. By the end, you should have a solid idea of where the Dyson humidifier stands in relation to its top competition, and you should be able to evaluate humidifiers based on solid criteria.
We'll break down each of these top products in detail. However, we should first answer one of the most frequently asked questions we receive in relation to Dyson humidifier reviews…

Why Do You Need a Humidifier?

If you live anywhere near a desert, you probably already know why you need a humidifier. Living in low humidity conditions can easily dry out your skin. This is not only annoying and ugly, but it can also even be painful. Dry skin develops cracks, and those cracks can develop fissures, which can require additional medical attention to be able to remedy.

If you are storing cigars, tobacco, or other types of smoke-ables and you have a room dedicated to this collection, a humidifier is essential. Many smoke-ables have a natural humidity level that helps keep the burn nice and controlled. Too little and your smoke will burn up too fast. This will leave you coughing and rob you of the nice, leisurely experience that the smoke should by all rights provide.

You may associate dryness with the summer season. However, many people find a humidifier to be essential in winter. With the colder weather, a host of problems show up. Not only are you reaching for more blankets and find yourself hovering nearer to the radiator, but also health issues show up.

Luckily, humidifiers can help to treat dry skin, to alleviate chapped lips, to reduce the number of nose bleeds experienced, and they can even tackle other less than advantageous cold-weather conditions.

What Is the Dyson Humidifier?

At first glance, the Dyson Humidifier does not look radically different than the revolutionary Dyson bladeless fan. Remember when Dyson rocked the market with that design some years back? Many were skeptical that a fan could even work without blades.

But today, the design is not only proven, but it is also, in many ways, unparalleled. That same blade-free air distribution technology has been applied by Dyson to their humidifier. We are happy to report that it works well.

This is one of the most space-age humidifiers, aesthetically. It looks nearly alien while keeping the humidity levels entirely human. The same innovations that allow their fans to run nearly silently while doing a stellar job of circulating air are all present in this device.

Among the best features, which we will highlight in the next section, is that the Dyson Humidifier uses UV light to treat the water it uses to add humidity to the air. Why is this important? Their UV light helps to kill off any bacteria that are attempting to live on the Dyson Humidifier. Unlike many humidifiers, the Dyson Humidifier will not become a breeding ground for diseases.

Product Specs

Dyson loves to boast that their humidifier “Delivers 99.9% bacteria-free, hydrated air in winter.” But, we loved that the same device can provide high “velocity air to cool you in summer.” Don't think of the Dyson humidifier as something you will only dust out of the closet in the winter. This is an all season device for climate control.
Obviously, this device excels as a humidifier, but it also includes a fan and a sleep timer. It is extremely hygienic, using ultraviolet light to kill bacteria that might otherwise be lurking in the water it uses for humidity.

If you need an authority's take on this product, then check this out: the Dyson Humidifier was Certified Asthma and Allergy Friendly by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America. Not only that, but it was awarded the Quiet Mark accreditation by the Noise Abatement Society.

If you've ever been curious about Dyson's proprietary air multiplier technology, this is one stellar device to try it out on.

Pricing

Not all humidifiers are as space age as the Dyson. As could be expected, the Dyson Humidifier will run you a pretty penny more than the low-end competition. You might prepare to pay around $400 for the Dyson Humidifier depending on the color and model that you have your eye on. Its competition may not be as steep, but they usually do not provide half the amount of technology.

How It Compares

We picked a few similar products available on the market to see how they compare.

  • Boneco Warm or Cool Mist Ultrasonic Humidifier
  • Honeywell HCM350W Germ Free Cool Mist Humidifier
  • Levoit Humidifier

Dyson Humidifier

Price

$$$

This can represent the high end of humidifier technology. However, we find the price to be ultimately worth paying with all the features and the proprietary technology that it equips you with.

Ease of Use

The Dyson could not be easier to set up. If you have a water tap and a spare outlet, you've got everything you need to make this device work.

Humidity Levels

The Dyson humidifier utilizes an airflow maximum of 460 l/s. Its daily output of humidity clocks in at an impressive 1.6 gallons.

Portability

The device is not much bigger than a table fan. It does require a container of water to be filled, however, which makes it slightly less portable than a table fan. It can also be heavier.

Design

How can we not give five stars to the air multiplier technology? I mean, it is humidifying nearly silently.

Warranty

A two-year warranty is solid, even for a device priced such as this one.

Pros

  • Air multiplier
  • Excellent design
  • Space age aesthetics
  • UV light kills bacteria

Cons

  • Not the cheapest option in our Dyson humidifier review

Boneco Warm or Cool Mist Ultrasonic Humidifier

The Boneco Warm or Cool Mist Ultrasonic Humidifier represents a much more traditional humidifier when compared with the hyper-modern Dyson model reviewed above. It sits on the floor; it has a jellyfish-like water reservoir that is disseminated throughout the room.

Ultimately, it works quite well to humidify a room. However, it lacks the sexiness factor that the Dyson exudes. On the other hand, it is just a fraction of its price.

Price

$

This is one of the cheapest options we included in our Dyson humidifier review. This is certainly one of the best points on its “why you should buy” column.

Ease of Use

You won't find anything about this product that will leave you scratching your head, but it also does not streamline any part of its setup process for you.

Humidity Levels

This humble little guy can put out up to 3.5 gallons a day of water. This is even more impressive than the Dyson. So, if you need a room wet and you need that room wet fast, this might be the product for you.

Portability

Not the most portable. In fact, it is cumbersome in some ways.

Design

Nothing to write home about.

Warranty

Limited one-year warranty

Pros

  • High output
  • Bargain price
  • Well constructed
  • Works warm or cool

Cons

  • Not the most attractive
  • Nothing to write home about

Honeywell HCM350W Germ Free Cool Mist Humidifier

Like the Boneco Warm or Cool Mist Ultrasonic Humidifier, the Honeywell HCM350W Germ Free Cool Mist Humidifier looks more like a traditional, floor model humidifier. However, it approaches the sleekness attained by the Dyson.

If you thought the high performance of the Boneco was a plus for its price point, wait till you see the Honeywell. This humidifier goes for even a fraction of the price that the Boneco sells for.

Price

$

It is very difficult to find a humidifier that works for a lower price point.

Ease of Use

This humidifier is easy to use, but it is not the easiest we considered in our Dyson humidifier review.

Humidity Levels

This humidifier will use up about a gallon in an hour.

Portability

It is squat and easily transportable for the most part.

Design

It looks great for the classic design.

Warranty

This model comes with a great three-year limited warranty.

Pros

  • Provides filtered and cool moisture
  • Low, low price
  • Three-year limited warranty

Cons

  • 13-pound shipping weight
  • Not as attractive as the Dyson

Levoit Humidifier

The Levoit Humidifier is more extensively known as the Levoit Large Room, 6L Warm and Cool Mist Ultrasonic Humidifier for Bedroom and Babies, Vaporizer with Remote and Humidity Monitor. It claims to be germ-free and whisper-quiet. While both these factors are technically true, it does not do as thorough a job as the Dyson humidifier.

It is quite a large device, but you do not have to pay too much to gain its functionality. One of the Levoit Humidifiers best features is that is displays the actual humidity on a screen.

Price

$$

You'd be surprised how little you can pay for so large a humidifier.

Ease of Use

We found this to be among the more confusing humidifiers to use.

Humidity Levels

It can humidify one and a half gallons a day.

Portability

This is the least portable device we considered in our Dyson humidifier review.

Design

We are split on the design, parts look space opera, but overall it looks clunky.

Warranty

Comes with a 3-year warranty.

Pros

  • 1.5 gallon per day output
  • Works warm and cool
  • 3-year warranty
  • Price is reasonable

Cons

  • Quite large
  • Clunky

Conclusion for Dyson Humidifier Review

If you do not want to meet the price point asked by Dyson, there are some other options available. Although, if you want air multiplication technology and a sexy device, there are no better options than Dyson.
