Knowing how to clean essential oil diffuser involves regular cleaning and deep cleaning. As we mentioned before, to take the best care of your essential oil diffuser, you want to clean it out after each use. This regular process of cleaning is simple, fast, and easy. For routine cleaning, wipe down your essential oil diffuser with a cloth, tissues, or Q-Tip after each use. Also, if your essential oil diffuser uses water, make sure always to empty any remaining water after each use.

The deep cleaning process for your essential oil diffuser takes a little longer and is more involved than the regular cleaning. But don't worry, it's still simple and quick. Before you deep clean your essential oil diffuser, remember, all essential oil diffusers are different. The difference in make and model can impact how you should care for your essential oil diffuser. Before doing any deep cleaning, it's always recommended to check your essential oil diffuser's manufacture guidelines for cleaning.

Deep Cleaning An Ultrasonic Diffuser

An ultrasonic diffuser is hands down the most popular type of essential oil diffuser. Here's how to deep clean yours:

Step 1

As with most electronic items, you don't want to clean it while it's plugged in. So the first step in how to clean essential oil diffuser is to turn it off and unplug it.

Step 2

The second step is to fill the water reservoir up halfway to the max fill line with clean water.

Step 3

After you've filled the water reservoir, add about ½ a teaspoon of pure white vinegar to it, creating a water and vinegar solution.

Step 4

Once your water and vinegar solution is ready, plug your essential oil diffuser back in and turn it on. Let your essential oil diffuser run for about three to five minutes so that the pure white vinegar disperses throughout the unit. If you let it run a little longer, that's no problem.

Step 5

Once it's run for up to 15 minutes, turn your diffuser off and empty the water.

Step 6

After you've diffused the pure white vinegar and then emptied the reaming liquid of the water reservoir, it's time to use a bit of elbow grease. For step six, take a cotton swab and dip it in a small amount of the same pure white vinegar you used to diffuse.

Use the cotton swab to wipe down the edges and the entire area inside of the water reservoir until there is no visible build-up. If you need to get into the edges better, you can use a Q-Tip instead of a cotton ball.

Step 7

Rinse the water reservoir out with tap water and empty it again.

Step 8

Using a cloth, dry out your diffuser and then give it some time to air dry before using it again entirely.

Deep Cleaning A Nebulizing Diffuser

Deep cleaning a nebulizing diffuser differs greatly from cleaning an ultrasonic one, but it requires fewer steps.

Step 1

Remove your nebulizer quick change top (non-mechanical parts only) and soak it in a bowl with water and a tablespoon of white vinegar or rubbing alcohol.

Step 2

Allow your non-mechanical parts to soak in your water and vinegar or water and rubbing alcohol mixture for around 30 to 60 minutes.

Step 3

Wipe the outside base and other parts of your nebulizing diffuser with a damp cloth.

Step 4

Once your non-mechanical parts are done soaking, wipe them dry with a cloth and you're ready to put your diffuser to work again.

Deep Cleaning An Evaporative Diffuser

Cleaning an evaporative diffuser is the easiest of all and only takes three short steps.

Step 1

Remove the scented pad.

Step 2

Wipe the diffuser down with a damp cloth.

Step 3

Replace the scented pad, and you're ready to use your diffuser again.
